So, this year, I’m quite overloading on the band/music portion of my life. Haha.
I joined…
concert band, marching band, jazz band, and CYS.
Plus! I’m also taking private oboe lessons.
PLUS! I want to learn violin. :D
PLUSSSS! I want to start up piano lessons again.
That’s a lot of band per week. Let’s calculate this. Currently my schedule is…
Concert Band = 2.5 hours
Marching Band = 14 hours
Jazz Band = 1 hour
CYS = 2 hours
Oboe Lessons = 1 hour
All in all… thats about 20 hours of band a week. THAT IS… a LOT OF BAND. I’m all played out, seriously. Even so, my mom thinks I’m doing too much band and I must say that I agree. However it’s so dam fun and I love playing music. So I’m going to keep up with this. :D It’s worth it!
In my mom’s eyes, I’m doing far too much band. So she’s considering in making me quit CYS, especially since rehearsals collide with my chinese school. But today, we came to the consensus that if I audition for WPII as brass and make it, I could continue with CYS, since there wouldn’t be a scheduling problem anymore. (Man, that’s gonna be a tough one.)
On another note, I can’t stick with one instrument for all my bands (which is kind of a relief since one instrument for so many times in a week is boring). For concert band, I’m playing oboe, my primary instrument. Obviously, for oboe lessons I’m playing oboe. Then for marching, double reed instruments can’t march! So I play flugelhorn for that. For jazz band, I play the piano. And I’m hoping that I can make CYS with trumpet or french horn (since there’s no flugelhorns in a concert setting).
Overall, I’m having an overload of band. Although sometimes it definitely has its downside, I must say sincerely that I’m having a blast.
